Lebanese Cheese Rolls
Ingredients
12 Phyllo dough sheets
½ cup of Crumbled Akkawi cheese
½ cup of Grated mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons of Chopped parsley
¼ teaspoon of Black pepper
1 teaspoon of Wheat flour
1 teaspoon of Water
Vegetable oil
Preparation
Step 1 : The priest crumbles the Akkawi cheese and places it in a bowl along with the parsley and pepper, mixing carefully to integrate the flavors.
Step 2 : Next, prepare a paste with flour and water, which will be used as a glue, setting it aside for later use.
Step 3 : Then, take the dough sheets and cut them in half, placing them with the point facing the top.
Step 4 : On the top of each half of dough, place one spoonful of the prepared filling.
Step 5 : Then, fold the sides in a triangular shape and fold the bottom end over the filling, forming a roll.
Step 6 : To seal the roll, brush the edges with the flour and water paste.
Step 7 : Repeat this process with all the dough and filling.
Step 8 : Place the rolls on a plate with the sealed part facing down so they don't open during frying.
Step 9 : If frying, heat enough oil to approximately 350°F.
Step 10 : Fry four to five rolls at a time for about three minutes, until golden.
Step 11 : Then, remove and place them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Step 12 : As a healthier alternative, they can also be cooked in a preheated air fryer at 375°F.
Step 13 : Spray the rolls with cooking spray and cook for two minutes; turn them over and cook another two minutes so they are crispy and golden.
Step 14 : Serve hot, enjoying their crunchy texture and delicious filling.
